Tungsten E2 Posted by Hello

Palm's new Tungsten E2

PalmOne's latest Tungsten handheld comes with a Bluetooth wireless connection and nonvolatile flash memory. The new Tungsten E2 can connect to desktops and compatible phones via Bluetooth, a short-range wireless specification, and features a brighter color screen and longer battery life than the Tungsten E, the company said Wednesday.

The use of nonvolatile flash memory means that data isn't lost if the battery runs out of juice.

The device comes with 32MB of flash, but only 26MB is available for actual storage capacity. Last fall, PalmOne fielded complaints from some consumers about the available memory in its Treo 650.

Computing power in the Tungsten E2 comes from a 200MHz Intel XScale processor, and expansion cards let people play MP3 music files or show off digital photos.

The device, priced at $249, is available now. PalmOne also reduced the price of its Zire 31 handheld by $20 to $129. Goto PalmOne

Motorola's first Linux Smartphone, the A760 Review

Motorola A760 Posted by Hello

Motorola has announced their first Linux based Smartphone, the A760. In what appears to be yet a further shift away from Symbian, a venture they are part-owners of, Motorola has expressed that they plan on using Linux and Java as the platform for their future smartphone devices.

"The A760 is Motorola's first handset demonstrating the company's commitment to making the Linux operating system a key pillar of its handset software strategy. The strategy fosters innovative applications, which helps lead to increased revenue and differentiation opportunities for operators around the globe."

The device has a form factor similar to that of the Accompli 008, and the new A388 and A388c models. A clam-shell type design with a window allowing the user to see a portion of the device's display even when it is closed. Motorola claims it will support all of the typical PDA type functions in addition to offering advanced features like a digital camera, MP3 player, and a video player - which should look nice on the A760's nice large color touch screen.

The Motorola A760 is a solution that reaches everyone from business executives to music buffs. The handset’s open OS and extensive PIM/PDA system are engineered to provide necessary tools to keep users on top of their schedules with the ability to sync back with office computers via secure Over the Air (OTA), Bluetooth wireless technology, Infrared or USB connections.

The Motorola A760’s integrated camera is engineered to provide a convenient and fun way to capture shots of life’s "must-see" moments. Additionally, the model A760’s colour touch screen is an ideal medium to share new pictures, play games or review documents. Utilizing the handset’s advanced messaging, users can also send messages attaching pictures, animations, ring tones and more to users’ compatible mobile phones or PCs. The Motorola A760 allows for customisation inside and out, including the option of a variety of colourful housings and display wallpapers.
