Two versions are available, a 16GB WiFi version for US$469.99 and a 32GB WiFi version that will be selling for US$569.99. The pre-order page however didn’t yet include a launch date for the device.

We have been told that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be making it to Malaysia in about a month’s time after the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. We’re nearing the one month mark since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was launch but we haven’t seen any indication that Samsung Malaysia is planning another launch soon. It’s either that they really nothing planned at the moment or they are keeping a very tight lid on things.

Either way, with the US pricing of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 now a known quantity, it gives us some indication of how much the device might retail for when it comes to Malaysia.

In this instance we’re pegging the Galaxy Tab 8.9 (16GB WiFi) to retail in the range of RM1,600 to RM1,500. We’re using the US retail price of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and its difference with the Malaysia selling price as a marker, which means our estimate, at the moment, is an educated at best. Even so, it looks some may see the Galaxy Tab 8.9 as expensive.

HTC Sensation XE Malaysia

The HTC Sensation XE is the first handset from HTC enhanced with Beats Audio and focuses on delivering superior audio via both software and hardware improvements. Sometimes uploading to the popular Rapidshare isn't enough as you might need mirrors to host your files in case some people isn't able to download from Rapidshare because they've used up their download limit. Imagine you have your files at 32 download locations, your customers wouldn't have any problems in getting your file.

FileUploader by ZeR0, other than able to upload files or folders to 32 file hoster, it supports Remote Upload. Remote Upload is a feature where you can upload the files to the file hoster from a website and not from your computer. Unfortunately, only 4 free file hoster supports this feature.
After completed uploading your files to all file hoster, the link list can be saved according to location that is configured. Love this camera. I already own a Nikon Coolpix 2100 and it's a winner. The best feature of this new S1 is the Face Priority Autofocus. The face priority auto focus feature automatically searches for your face and focuss on it, whenever you are in frame.

The Nikon Coolpix S1 offers 5.1 effective megapixels and a 3x optical zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens for beautiful 16 x 20inch prints. The incredible 2.5 inch LCD makes for easy viewing and image playback. This stunning camera has a compact metal body that's a mere 3/4 inch thick and is shirt pocket small.

The included Coolstation dock makes it easy to download images, and Nikon's exclusive in-camera Red-Eye fix, automatically removes most typical instances of red-eye during the picture taking process. The D-Lighting feature automatically lightens overly dark images in playback mode. There's no guesswork, as on-screen help is available for all main menu functions.

5.1 Megapixel CCD and 3x Optical Zoom-Nikkor Lens
The Nikon Coolpix S1 combines a 3x optical zoom-Nikkor lens with a 5.1 effective megapixel CCD, which lets the user capture spectacular images at resolutions up to 2592 x 1944 (15MB file) and create amazing 16 x 20 inch prints. The 3x zoom-Nikkor lens offers a 35 to 105 millimeter zoom (35mm equivalent) and provides excellent image quality.

Incredible, Bright 2.5 inch LCD
The oversized and easy-to-see 2.5 inch LCD makes composing your pictures easier, as well as making it more fun to share your pictures while they are still in the camera.

Compact, Slim, Metal Body
The Coolpix S1 has a compact metal body that is a mere 3/4 inch thick. This shirt-pocket-small camera will come along everywhere you go! Its sleek and sexy styling is a delight to use and own.

Nikon Exclusive Face Priority Autofocus
The S1 can distinguish when the subject is a human face and sets the focus accordingly. Now all your portraits will have tack-sharp focus on the subject's face (rather than the wall behind them!).

Nikon Exclusive In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
A hands-free solution for red-eye; this powerful software analyzes the image data and corrects most typical instances of red-eye in less than 3 seconds! The In-Camera Red-Eye Fix feature turns on automatically when the red-eye reduction flash mode is selected.

Nikon Exclusive D-Lighting
The Coolpix S1 incorporates D-Lighting, which automatically compensates for under- and over-exposure due to insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in a picture.

17 Scene Modes, 4 with Scene Assist
Selecting a scene mode automatically sets the camera for the optimum performance in most popular picture-taking situations. Scene assist further aids with composition, exposure and focus. Scene Modes: party/indoor, dawn/dusk, back light, beach/snow, sunset, night landscape, copy, fireworks, close up, panorama, museum, underwater and voice recording. Scene assist modes: night portrait, portrait, landscape, and sports.

Adjustable GUI with Help Button
Choose between the traditional menu item view or the all new ICON view. Press the help button and it will instantly display an explanation for all main menu functions on the LCD.

What's in the Box:
Cool-Station MV-11, li-ion rechargeable battery, AC adapter, USB cable, strap, A/V cable, imaging software, including Nikon PictureProject. Optional accessories include SD cards, camera case, underwater case and more.

Buy the Nikon Coolpix S1 | technology

Sony Cybershot DSCT7 Review

Sony Cybershot DSCT7

Sony Cybershot DSCT7

Sony's DSCT7 5.1-megapixel camera brings super-compact size to a new level. The camera is 3/8 inches thin at its narrowest point and 5/8 inches thin at its widest. Despite its small size, the camera still includes the quality features you've come to expect from Sony digital cameras, including a large, 2.5-inch LCD display, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom, and enough megapixels to help you capture detail for photo-quality prints up to 13 x 17 inches.

1/2.4-Inch 5.1-Megapixel Effective Super HAD CCD
Super HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCDs provide excellent image quality by allowing more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity, and reducing noise.

The Sony DSCT7's display
The T7's super-size 2.5-inch display is much larger than the 1.5-inch displays common to ultra-compact cameras.

2.5-Inch Hybrid LCD Monitor
The enormous 2.5-inch LCD provides a high resolution view while shooting, with transmissive/reflective Hybrid design for extraordinary brightness in direct sunlight and large, easy to read menus. Unique in such a compact camera, this large screen makes it easy to share image playback with friends.

Clear Photo LCD
The DSCT7 includes Clear Photo LCD technology which provides higher resolution, contrast ratio and brightness. Images in the LCD will have up to a 40% improvement in color reproduction than previous models.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens
The Vario-Tessar lens is specially produced for compact cameras and provides rapid auto focus with appealing zoom range. Utilizing a highly transmissive optical grade prism, the lens is housed entirely inside the camera body, and does not need to extend for use.

Buy the Sony's DSCT7 | technology

Download Sony DVD HandyCam USB Driver

Saw this post and it was quite interesting. Well yes, but what a fine example. The Safecom 1GB Mini MP3 Player is targeted at customers who are considering an iPod Shuffle 1GB, being £10 cheaper @ £89 while featuring a full aluminium body, backlit LCD screen, voice recording and an FM tuner. The Safecom 1GB is one of the smallest MP3 players in the world being only 8.5cm high (just a little larger than an AAA battery). This player is flying on our website; selling hundreds of players per month and is a true alternative to the iPod Shuffle.

Read more at Advanced MP3 Players

technology

XEN EMP-500 1GB Colour mp3 player

XEN EMP-500 1GB Colour mp3 player

Take a look at the photo on our website; the XEN EMP-500 is encased in a semi-reflective metal chrome surface – the player feels like a nugget of solid silver in your hands. As well as the usual slew of features normally present on a high end flash based MP3 player (OGG Vorbis, WMA, ASF and MP3 support, FM tuner & recorder, direct encoding, voice recording with AGC, VAC and time stamping), the XEN EMP-500 also supports the playback of DV movie files so you can watch your favourite music videos or film clips on the player’s super sharp Colour STN 4096 coloured display. This equates to almost half the size of the Apple iPod Mi ni. Somehow the manufacturer has managed to squeeze a massive range of features into the HTS-200’s aluminium shell including multi-codec support (MP3, WMA, OGG), an FM tuner and recorder, direct MP3 encoding, voice recording and Removable Disk Drive support. Transfers to the MPEYE HTS-200 are lightning fast due to the high speed USB 2.0 support. The physical appearance, metal body, and general excellence of build quality immediately strikes you when you have this player in your hands – the front of the player is dominated by a super sharp 128 x 80 pixels 65K full colour LCD screen. Available in both aluminium silver and jet black, for the very reasonable £159.

Read more at Advanced MP3 Players

technology

Samsung YH-925GS 20GB Colour MP3 Player

Samsung YH-925GS 20GB Colour MP3 Player

Samsung has made it clear that it wants to become one of the major MP3 player manufactur ers in the world. We’ve yet to find an audio or video format that the i-STATION can’t support; it currently can play all of the following: MP3, WMA, OGG, AC3, AAC, DivX, Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, ASF, WMV, JPEG. Battery life is also particularly impressive for a PMP unit; the PMP1000 will playback video files for over 6 hours and the rechargeable battery simply clips out the back so that you can carry a spare with you. The PMP1000’s built in loudspeaker also produces decent sound for such a small driver unit. The retail price is a very reasonable £259 for such a massive range of features.

Read more at Advanced MP3 Players

technology

Sony KLV-32M1 32" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Television (Silver) review

Sony KLV-32M1 32" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Television (Silver) review

See the Sony KLV-32M1 at Amazon

Finally, big-screen television comes with a small-scale footprint--or, with wall mounting, no footprint at all. Sony's 32-inch KLV-32M1 LCD television offers 1,366 x 768 native pixel resolution and compatibility with 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i HDTV signals. The TruSurround SRS audio processing, which simulates a surround-sound effect through the set's two 10-watt speakers. The set's widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio to match the dimension of most movies and HDTV broadcasts.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life with no risk of image burn-in, space savings, and light weight/easy positioning.

The KLV-32M1 performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Sony's Digital Reality Creation Circuitry grants amazing picture resolution while proprietary Direct Digital Circuitry increases a video signal's signal-to-noise ratio before it reaches the DRC circuit, ensuring rich, natural-looking images from any source. Sony's LCD panel driver LSI improves the response time in the middle luminance range, smoothing images and minimizing motion blur caused by lags in the response time.

Connections include a direct-digital HDMI interface for use with DTV set-top boxes, a high-definition-compatible component-video input, 3 each composite- and S-video inputs, and an RF coaxial input for hookup with an older VCR, cable box, or antenna.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your television. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multichannel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

See the Sony KLV-32M1 at Amazon

technology

Pillage Putter - Perfect weight distribution Putter

Pillage Putter

Pillage Putter - Perfect weight distribution Putter. Only 800 in the world. Find it at BuyaGift.

The Pillage was born out of a revolutionary concept for a new putter to make the ball roll from the moment of strike. Designed for right handed golfers, it performs briliantly - a putter to score with.

Design features:
We've moved the weight to the top of the head. This simple innovation gives the ball a positive roll, sending it smoothly along the target line. So the ball will not bite into the green and your putt won't die on you. Adverse ground conditions will have less effect.
The unique top face, centre-shafted, simplifies lining up and enhances a square to square action. Widely separated end weights enlarge the sweet spot. The central anti-torsion lobe improves the consistency of strike.

Advantages for the golfer:
Short putts lose their fear factor - the ball won’t ‘die’ on you. Holding a high proportion of 6 to 12 footers becomes routine. Long putts roll up to the hole - they’re an enjoyable challenge again. The design gives better feel from the fringes and a consistent roll to the pin. The Pillage gives you confidence to analyse the putt, line up and let it happen. A contemporary design with classic style that also has that little bit of magic.

                        Price: £55.00 at BuyaGift.

Philips 17PF8946 17" LCD Flat Panel HDTV-Ready TV

Philips 17PF8946 17" LCD Flat Panel HDTV-Ready TV

Ok. I'm getting this TV in the next few months...After my bonus comes in.

Philips 17PF8946 17-inch HDTV-ready flat-panel LCD TV is more than just great looks. The perfect size for a small space, the 3.1-inch-thick display provides an excellent audio/visual experience with features like Crystal Clear III, Active Control, Virtual Dolby Surround, and unique flat speakers. It even has a built-in FM radio tuner so you can listen to all your favorite radio channels, and up to 40 station presets make sure you tune in fast.

The high-definition (HD tuner not included), 1,280 x 768 WXGA LCD panel uses the latest panel technology, such as Philips' proprietary Crystal Clear package of innovations featuring a 3D digital comb filter (eliminates dot crawl and color bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colors), Dynamic Contrast for deep blacks and pure whites, and green and blue color enhancement. The high 400:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions, and the 25-millisecond response time means it's capable of handling fast-moving action without image blur or lag.

Active Control delivers the best picture setting, any time, from any source. The incoming signal is automatically analyzed and key picture settings, like sharpness, color, and contrast, are adjusted. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is the best for viewing HDTV and DVDs so you can have a more realistic cinema experience, but the TV has zoom modes for viewing 4:3 analog broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video.

Built-in flat speakers (4 watts per channel) sit on either side of the active-matrix TFT LCD, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. Virtual Dolby Surround sound support simulates cinema surround sound effects without the need for rear speakers. Philips' Smart Listening auto volume leveling eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial break.

Other features include fantastic 176-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, 100 preset channels, Autostore for easy tuning, Auto Picture (five modes give you picture settings for different types of programming), Auto Sound (four modes to tailor the TV sound to enhance what you're watching), multilanguage onscreen display, sleep timer, integrated NTSC tuner and RF jack for terrestrial reception, ergonomic remote control, and an antireflective screen.

Want to do more than just watch TV? The 17PF8946 has an FM antenna connector for getting better reception, a rear composite input, and a component input that helps minimize digital and line-scan artifacts during DVD playback. And, because the TV is progressive scan, it can take advantage of the more filmlike images produced by progressive-scan DVD players. It has a VGA input too, which receives the signal from your PC so you can use it as a TV and a PC monitor. A set of side jacks has a composite A/V input with S-video, a mini headphone jack, and an audio in for using the TV's speakers with your PC.

Buy from Bennetts Electrical (UK)
It was £598.86 but now is £378.00 (sale)

technology

Palm LifeDrive

Palm LifeDrive

I thought the DELL X50 was sexy. See below

IF YOU were planning to set copyfighters alight with righteous anger it's hard to imagine a better scheme than proposing a surcharge on the amount of storage in MP3 players. This very thing is being suggested by the Dutch foundation Stichting Thuiskopie, previously an apologist for the levy on blank CDs and DVDs.

Let's even leave aside the essential absurdity of a proposal that would create such an utterly uneven market within what is supposed to be a common European shopping area that everyone would be importing iPods and other music players from Belgium, France, the UK…anywhere that was within the EU and wasn't the Netherlands. Unlike blank CDs and DVDs, which are recurring purchases, MP3 players are things that people buy only occasionally. If you're faced with an extra charge of €3.28 per gigabyte (that's €65.60 for the Archos) your gadget doesn't have to get all that capacious before it suddenly seems logical to spend the added tax on a short vacation instead. Especially given that the contents of any MP3 player change with some frequency. In the life of an iPod, a user could shuffle through terabytes of music.

Via Inquirer

Nokia 6255i Review

Nokia 6255i Review

The Nokia 6255i is a multimedia phone featuring a built-in MP3 player, integrated camera with flash and digital zoom, a video recorder, the ability to receive streaming video and audio, and removable MMC memory support. But that’s not all — it keeps shaking when you pick it up, making it a frustrating exercise just to find the off button. No Wifi ? Too bad...

When palmOne's Treo 650 was announced last fall, the CMDA2000 1xRTT version was just on the horizon and appeared from Sprint in short order. The more impressive version, however, didn't appear until this year through Cingular. The GSM/GPRS/EDGE Treo 650 offers all of features we liked about the Sprint Treo 650 but also some of the shortcomings. Still, it manages to edge past its sibling and keep the "best communicator ever" trophy on palmOne's mantle.

At first blush, the Treo 650 is almost identical to the highly successful Treo 600. The 113 x 59 x 23 mm size is an almost perfect handheld vs. phone balance, and the 178 gram weight is noticeable but still only mid-range for competing communicators. Cingular's version has the same attractive light silver plastic casing as the Sprint version, but with a silly-looking dusty blue highlight around the screen.

The Treo's signature keypad has had some subtle but welcome improvements as well. The 4-row thumbboard is now slightly smile-curved with flatter keys, which, combined with some fancy accidental-press-detection software, make accuracy and speed extremely good with either one or two thumbs. New Home and Menu keys have been added right above the directional pad, and combined with palmOne's new one-handed navigation support (as seen on the Tungsten T5 as well), make the Treo virtually screen-touch-free for the built-in apps.

Connectivity on the GSM version of the Treo 650 is markedly better than on its predecessor, but still needs some work. Naturally it starts with a quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM radio with support for both GPRS and EDGE data service, making it one of the first communicators to take advantage of the faster service. In practice the EDGE connection was considerably faster on data transfer than either GPRS or 1xRTT, but latency was still rather high. Also, for unknown reasons the SIM card slips into a slot on top of the device instead of underneath the battery. Just don’t try to squeeze an SD card in there.

At the request of many, the Treo 650 also now sports a Bluetooth 1.1 radio as well for Bluetooth headsets or connecting to other handhelds. Unfortunately, like Sprint, Cingular has decided to disable the Bluetooth DUN profile, which would allow the Treo to be used as a modem for a laptop. (Some users have reported that the unlocked version does not have that problem.) Perhaps even more amazingly, there is no native voice dialing capability. palmOne offers an after-market program to provide it (for a price), but even then it doesn't work with a Bluetooth headset. For a phone in this price range (or anything over $100 these days), we'd expect voice dialing out of the box.

Although Sprint has made available a patch to address the memory problems on its Treo 650, it hasn't made it to Cingular yet. Specifically, the Treo 650 includes 32 MB of non-volatile memory (23 MB user-accessible) that does not lose data when power is lost. However, it also requires using a file system that stores data in pre-sized chunks, specifically 512 bytes. Any records smaller than 512 bites still take up 512 bytes. That doesn't sound like much, but with the bite-sized (pun intended) typical record size on Palm OS, trust me when I say this adds up fast. Hopefully Cingular will offer a patch like Sprint has to drop the chunk size down to 32 bytes, but for now the already-cramped memory space is even more cramped.

The power situation is more appealing, however. Non-volatile memory takes less battery power, and when combined with the 312 MHz power-friendly Intel PXA270 processors battery life iss almost unbelievable. In our standard play-music-until-it-dies test, the Treo 650 GSM/EDGE lasted a jaw-dropping 19 hours before even giving a low battery warning, finally dying around 19 hours 40 minutes to unseat its CDMA sibling as the longest-lived handheld in the universe. Most handhelds, in the same test, barely manage 7 hours of play time.

The Treo 650's software suite should be familiar to any Palm OS user of late. Combining Palm OS 5.4 "Garnet" with a full suite of PIM, connectivity, productivity, and multimedia applications, it should handle nearly any task. Of special note are Docs To Go 7 with native MS Office file support (on the included CD), RealOne audio player, a first-rate web browser, and palmOne's own picture/video viewer. Also of note is VersaMail 3.0, which handles multiple mail accounts with aplomb including POP3, IMAP4, and Exchange ActiveSync, the latter aimed at corporate users and a snap to setup.

The aforementioned one-handed software support, based on a "moving highlight" design, combines with smart auto-shift functionality, the keypad, and good software design for a virtually screen-free input system that is a joy to use. The Phone application has also been enhanced, with up to 70 speed-dial or speed-application buttons accessible from just the directional pad.

The included Camera, Camcorder, and Picture applications integrate to provide full functionality from the included VGA camera. Although only 0.3 megapixel and lacking a flash, picture and video quality is surprisingly good even in low-light, among the best VGA cameras on the market.

Conclusion

It's hard for palmOne to keep the Treo line on top with the flood of recent communicators on the market, but attention to detail and solid software do just that. The Treo 650 builds on the already-proven Treo 600 design and adds much-wanted features to round out the product. Sadly the lack of Wi-Fi, tight memory, and lack of built-in voice dialing mar what would otherwise be a near-perfect device. On the flip side, the best-of-class thumbboard, good camera, amazing battery life, and zippy-ness of EDGE connectivity make the GSM/EDGE Treo 650 our new favorite communicator. Of course, it only had to beat its CDMA sibling to do that.

Get a Treo 650 at TigerDirect for only USD $679.99

Treo 650 PDA Unlocked GSM Cell Phone
Treo 650 PDA Unlocked GSM Phone

Nokia 3230 Review and Free on O2

nokia 3230

13 April 2005.

Finally available, Nokia 3230 is Free on O2 - the Nokia Symbian phone everyone's been waiting for. Mobiles.co.uk first again with the latest phones!

So Creative
The O2 Nokia 3230 alows you to Create your own ringing tones, print your mobile images, play multiplayer games over a wireless Bluetooth connection, and browse HTML and xHTML Web pages. Intel also believes it will stimulate computer sales in emerging markets where high-speed Internet access is unavailable or prohibitively expensive.

Wimax is not a guaranteed hit, as telecommunication carriers invest in wireless broadband networks based on cellular technology as well as WiFi hot-spots.

Intel's chip, formerly given the code name Rosedale, costs around $45 and is designed to power devices that will receive Wimax signals in users' homes. Major networking equipment makers, including Siemens AG (SIEGn.DE) of Germany and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (HWT.UL) of China, will also announce products built on Rosedale, Intel said.

Unlike Wi-Fi, whose ad hoc networks can be set up by anyone to connect a single house or office, Wimax is engineered to cover an entire city via base stations dispersed around a metropolitan area.

Via Yahoo

President Bush and his IPOD ONE

Some news from Yahoo Buzz

We know searchers love their iPods, but even we were surprised to see President Bush has an Apple of his own. It's cool that the big guy is hip to the latest technology, but should we be worried? After all, mountain biking while listening to the driving drumbeats of My Sharona could lead to a skinned knee. Regardless, searches on "Bush iPod" zoomed from zero into the hundreds after word of Bush's playlist trickled out on the Web. Danger be damned!

With all the hubbub over what's on the President's iPod we thought he might want to squeeze in a few more songs to spice things up. We feel it's our patriotic duty to give ol' #43 fully vetted intelligence on some of the top songs and music artists in Buzz.

These highly searched songs would make fine additions to the most powerful playlist in the world:

* Candy Shop -- sorry, this 50 Cent hit is a breach of protocol.
* We Belong Together -- this one goes out to Old Europe.
* Boulevard of Broken Dreams -- no, this Green Day hit isn't about John Kerry's campaign.
* Slow Down -- smooth tunes by Bobby Valentino. Maybe a bit too randy for D.C.?
* Dreaming of You -- maybe this Selena ballad is better for dancing than it is for an afternoon bike ride?
* Beautiful Soul -- looking for the next Supreme Court justice.
* Mr. Brightside -- the Killers will get you over the steepest hills.
* Helena -- every president should listen to punk rock.
* Some Cut -- try some of this Trillville crunk on the White House press corps.
* American Idiot -- solely the opinion of Green Day.

Get your Ringtone Downloads here

Use your Gmail account as a personal file server

Great article that I came about sometime ago and just posting it for your reading pleasure..

This is a fairly simple and useful trick to score yourself a gigabyte’s worth of free online file storage. If you already have a Gmail account, you can use it as a central file server that is accessible from anywhere you can access Gmail. If you don’t have a Gmail account… read on. We’re going to install a shell extension that will allow you to mount your Gmail account as a virtual drive on your desktop, so you can perform basic file manipulation operations without having to go through the web-based interface. Drag and drop, batch copy, create folders and delete files as you normally would in Windows Explorer, and be able to access your virtual drive from virtually anywhere.

There are some limitations and caveats associated with this how-to: Gmail doesn’t support files larger than 10MB, so you won’t be able to store large movie files or anything, but you wouldn’t be doing that anyway ‘cuz it’s illegal, right? Also, the Gmail drive shell extension only functions under Windows XP, but you’ll be able to access and download any of your files via any operating system and browser combination supported by Gmail.

Be advised that this trick is completely unsupported by the Google folk and so may cease functioning at any time — particularly following upgrades to the Gmail service. As far as we know this isn’t illegal (we actually read the EULA for you — that’s love, people), but we can’t guarantee Google won’t go all RIAA on us and crack down on this app, either, so use at your own risk.

Read on at Engadget

Super Guide for Mobile Downloads and Tech News
http://www.TheSMSGuide.com/

HP iPAQ hx2110 Review

HP iPAQ hx2110

The past eight months have seen a complete refresh of HP's iPAQ range, with the very last piece of the puzzle being the hx2000 series: a mainstream PDA aimed squarely at businesses. Whereas most manufacturers stick with only one or two different Pocket PCs, this means there's now a comprehensive selection of HP iPAQs for any need and any budget (see An iPAQ for every pocket, right).

In fact, this could be said for just the hx2000 series on its own. In the UK, it consists of three different models: the hx2110 we test here; the hx2410, which adds Wi-Fi and a 510MHz processor; and the hx2750, toting Wi-Fi, a 624MHz processor, 128MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM. The street prices rise as we'd expect: from £229 to £283 to £348.

The chief among these is its price: only the rz1710 is cheaper, but this sacrifices both Bluetooth and a CompactFlash slot. The latter means the hx2110 isn't the slimmest of devices, but this iPAQ has a clever trick up its sleeve - it doesn't come with a sleeve. Instead of a cumbersome pouch that adds bulk and doesn't allow you to see the screen without removing the device, the 2110's transparent grey lid means you can just switch it on and see the last active screen. And when you need to write or tap on the screen, you just flip it up.

The only design 'fault' is that the shortcut and navigation buttons are covered by the lid too, but this does make it almost impossible to switch on the hx2110 accidentally when it's bouncing round in a pocket or bag. Still, we'd have preferred a Hold button and the option of navigating screens with the lid down.

You can press the Record button with the lid in place, but after the first time we're not sure many people will. HP has sacrificed microphone quality for the sake of cutting costs, and we found recordings to be virtually unusable. The speaker is much better quality, but if you plan to take advantage of the built-in Media Player then you'll almost certainly use the top-mounted 3.5mm jack. The top is also home to the infrared port.

At first glance, the wide bezel gives the appearance that HP has made a sacrifice in screen size too, but the 2100 series actually includes a 3.5in TFT. Unlike the hx4700 or Dell's Axim X50v, its resolution is limited to 240 x 320, but it makes up for this with vibrant colours and amazing brightness if you select the top level.

For battery testing, we set brightness down to medium, which was still more than viewable. The hx2110 lasted for six hours, nine minutes when we set it idling, and eight hours, 43 minutes when playing MP3s with the screen switched off. Decent results, but they would have been longer if HP included the same 1,440mAh battery that comes with the hx2410 and hx2750, rather than the 920mAh unit that comes in the hx2110. You can buy the 1,440mAh battery as a £59 option, and it won't add to the weight or bulk of the machine, or you can choose an Extended battery (2,880mAh) that protrudes from the back for £92.

When you consider that the hx2110 includes only a 312MHz processor, 64MB of RAM and 64MB of ROM, and that it doesn't come with a USB docking cradle but with a synchronisation cable, the extra £50 or so for a hx2410 (which does include a cradle) seems much more reasonable. But if you don't have that flexibility in your budget, the hx2110 is a sound choice: it covers all the basics for the same price as the equivalent Axim X50, and delivers them in a well-rounded package. The new Tungsten E2 can connect to desktops and compatible phones via Bluetooth, a short-range wireless specification, and features a brighter color screen and longer battery life than the Tungsten E, the company said Wednesday.

The use of nonvolatile flash memory means that data isn't lost if the battery runs out of juice.

The device comes with 32MB of flash, but only 26MB is available for actual storage capacity. Last fall, PalmOne fielded complaints from some consumers about the available memory in its Treo 650.

Computing power in the Tungsten E2 comes from a 200MHz Intel XScale processor, and expansion cards let people play MP3 music files or show off digital photos.

The device, priced at $249, is available now. PalmOne also reduced the price of its Zire 31 handheld by $20 to $129.
